Returning for season three to Masterpiece on PBS, the hit drama series Downton Abbey will continue its plots of wrenching social changes, romantic intrigues and personal crises that grip the majestic English country estate, now that the Great War is over and a long-awaited engagement is on. Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Shirley MacLaine will be joining the cast of Downton Abbey when season three starts in January. Written and created by Julian Fellowes, the show has become a worldwide cultural phenomenon, breaking records with all of its nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards.
