ZAP has been producing electric vehicles since 1994. Based in Santa Barbara, Calif., the company is a key supplier of trucks and vans to the military, and government and corporate fleets. Zap was also a pioneer in the development of electric motorcycles, scooters and ATVs.
On Thursday, the company announced it would begin mass production of its new cost effective, high-speed vehicle called Alias. The Alias will be produced in China, making it one of the first electric sports cars to be produced in that country.
The Alias was designed to travel at freeway speeds with an estimated range of over 100 miles per charge. Recharging is simple via any 110-volt outlet. It retails for $35,000 and ZAP is now accepting reservations on their Web site zapworld.com, with a refundable reservation fee of $1,000.
